FC Wisconsin Eclipse Finishes Season 4-4-1 at ECNL National Play-Offs

In the final event of the 2012-2013 ECNL season, FC Wisconsin Eclipse teams had a strong showing, finishing with a .500 record at the country’s biggest competition and recruiting event, with the U16s coming 1 point shy of qualifying for the ECNL Finals in the North American League.

The U15 team competed in the ECNL North American League and was drawn into a play-off group with Connecticut Football Club, national power SoCal Blues, and VSI Flames (Orlando, FL).  The team opened against Connecticut in tough conditions, as temperatures hovered around 95 degrees at kick-off.  Lindsey Weiss scored for FC Wisconsin Eclipse to tie the game at 1 in the second half before the team conceded the deciding goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.  Day 2 featured a match-up against top seed SoCal Blues, a club with a storied tradition of success in national competition.  Though the team held a 1-0 lead into the second half, SoCal Blues pressed hard and came baack to win the game 3-1.  The game clinched the group for SoCal Blues, who will move on to play in the ECNL North American League National Finals.  On the final day of the event, the 15s stormed out to a 3-0 lead against VSI Flames, and held on to win the game 3-2.

The U17 team competed in the ECNL Showcase Division.  The team dropped a 0-1 decision on day 1 to Arsenal (California), before rebounding to earn a 1-0 victory against Scorpions (Massachusetts).  The final day of competition was shortened due to lightning, with FC Wisconsin Eclipse tied 1-1 against Virginia Rush in the 83rd minute, on a tremendous finish of a corner kick from Erin Corrigan.  After a 60 minute lightning delay, the result would stand as final to give the team a 1-1-1 final record.

The U16 team also qualified for the ECNL North American League.  The U16s claimed a hard fought 4-3 victory against San Juan (CA) on the opening day of competition, coming from behind twice and taking the final lead with 10 minutes to play.  Steph Fabry led the team with 2 goals, Danielle Sobleman scored 1, and Gaby Dorsey scored the game winner on a 25 yard direct free-kick.  Day 2 saw the team face off against top seed Albertson Fury (NY) in an end-to-end game that could have gone either way.  FC Wisconsin Eclipse fell behind 0-1 before mounting a furious rally in the second half that saw multiple big-time saves from the Albertson goalkeeper, and a shot off the crossbar.  Late in the game, as the sides fatigued and the field opened up, Albertson notched the second to hold on to a 2-0 win.  Heading into day 3, the U16s were still in the hunt for the group spot if Albertson stumbled in their final game.  The U16s faced Richmond Strikers in another back and forth, wide open game, as emotion and fatigue wreaked havoc with both teams.  The U16s came from behind twice to earn a tight 3-2 win over Richmond, as Albertson was able to dodge late bullets and hang on to a 2-2 tie with San Juan to win the group.  The result put FC Wisconsin Eclipse in second place by 1 point.

The finish of the ECNL Play-Offs marked the end of the clubs first year in existence, competing at the highest level of youth soccer.  Through the hard work and commitment of the players, the foundation for long-term success was laid and the future looks bright for "Program 2" in the 2013-2014 season.
