FC Wisconsin Players Return to Ethiopia To Give-Back

In August, Alemitu and Selame Caldart returned to their birth country of Ethiopa with the non-profit Roots Ethiopia to provide gear and equipment to youth female soccer players in Shone, Ethiopia.  Collectively, the girls raised more than $1000 for uniforms and training gear, and were able to play with the Ethiopian players in their village during the trip.

"This program is a big deal because in Ethiopia many girls leave school by age 13," said Alemitu.  "Sports gives the girls a reason to come back and to be a part of something.”  Selame appreciated the half-time talk by the coach, where the whole community listened in (see last photo below). "It feels good to support girls in Ethiopia so that they can be a part  of a team and enjoy the sport the way I do.”
